Review | This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher

Hello, fellow readers! I have been trying to put my Scribd subscription to better use lately and picked a YA mystery/thriller to listen to during my commute. I have been wanting to read This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher for awhile now, and fall seemed like the perfect time for this book.

Description: One year ago, a boy was killed at a party. His death was ruled an accident, but somebody doesn’t seem to think that is the case. Five teens are invited to a murder mystery party one year later. Each teen played a part in the boy’s death, and tonight all will be revealed.

What I Liked: .I really liked the premise of this book, and I love mystery/thriller books with games, so I expected to really like this book. Unfortunately, the focus was not on the game, so this fell short of my expectations. The book is marketed as Riverdale meets Clue, which sounds exciting, but it was not!

What I Didn’t Like: The “twist” for this story was not hard to figure out. I listened to this on audio, and at 60%, you had already found out who was behind the fake murder mystery game. And then from there, you could guess the “twist” to the ending. It was just not good.

Final Thoughts: Another book that I gave a generous two star rating since I am not the target audience (young adult). I’m not sure if I would have enjoyed this more if I had physically read it, but the audiobook was very blah for me. The book has way too much teen angst and I did not like that the timeline jumped back and forth.
