I actually found it really difficult to find the five worst books I read this year. According to Goodreads, I only gave two books 1 star ratings and three books got 2 star ratings, but I DNF’d two of those books. I did not want to include DNF’d books on this list because it feels unfair to call them the worst if I never finished them.
Please do not take it personally if I disliked one of your favorite books-we are all entitled to different opinions!
5. Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
Surprisingly, I rated this 4 stars on Goodreads, but looking back on it, I really didn’t enjoy this book. I feel like nothing really happens in the book except the main character’s inner struggle with anxiety, which was captured perfectly. However, I can’t recall anything else that happens in the book.
4. Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
**Mild spoilers to follow**
I wish I had known this book is about a school shooting. As a teacher, that is one of my constant fears, so this book was not good for my anxiety.
3. Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent
Terribly dull and boring. I remember hating all of the characters.
2. Genuine Fraud by e. lockhart
I picked this up at the library on a whim, and it was trash. I thought reading a book in reverse chronological order would be more interesting, but this one was not good.
1. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
This should not surprise anyone who has been following my blog! I wanted to love this book, but the author wasted an opportunity to build a spectacular world and instead focused on insta-love. Terrible.
