Blogmas 2018 | My Favorite Christmas Traditions

As you get older, you grow to appreciate certain holiday traditions and get-togethers with family that you may not see otherwise during the year. Today, I will be discussing my favorite Christmas traditions from year to year.

Decorating the House
Nothing sparks more joy and cheer in my heart than dragging out my Christmas decorations after Thanksgiving. Bonus points that my husband enjoys it too (after he’s gotten everything down from the closet!) and helps me decorate the tree each year.

Gingerbread House “Contest”
Several years ago, my aunt decided she wanted us to try building gingerbread houses with one of the kits you see in the stores. The first year was alot of laughs and epic fails! Eventually, we did improve our techniques and our decorating improved, so the event became a sort of contest between me, my mom, my husband, and my two cousins (my aunt usually ends up helping and/or finishing their houses).

Friendmas Christmas Lights
My husband and I usually make it a tradition to go somewhere with our friends to look at a big Christmas light display. Last year, we did not make it to a big display, and this year is not looking good either, but even when we can’t travel, we usually get together and go somewhere local to view Christmas lights together.

Christmas Vacation Viewing
I have to watch this movie with my parents every year. My dad will laugh like he’s never seen it before, and it is one of my favorite things we do together during December. This year, my mom and I are going to attempt to make iced sugar cookies while we watch the movie.

Christmas Eve Brunch
Of all the gatherings we have on Christmas Eve, this is my favorite. My dad’s family has this every year and it is the only time I see some of them all year. Its a great way to kick off the marathon of gatherings over the next two days.

What are some of your favorite holiday traditions? I would love to hear about them!
